GUTHRIE – Piedmont has notched several important wins this season, but Tuesday’s victory at Guthrie probably tops the list.

That’s because the Lady Wildcats’ 4-3 win over the Blue Jays gives PHS the inside track to a district title.

“This was a great team win for us,” head coach Keith Coleman said. “The kids fought through adversity and beat a really good team. I’m proud of them.”

Piedmont (15-1, 7-0) now has a  one-game lead on Guthrie (12-3, 7-1) and is in front of all its other district opponents by two games or more.

The ‘Cats rallied for three runs in the top of the sixth to overcome a 2-1 deficit thanks to an RBI-single from Karissa Fiegener and a two-RBI single from Addison Cassady that held up as the game-winner. Fiegener also added a solo home run.

Payten Schibbelhute allowed a run in the seventh, but got a fly out to end the game and strand the tying run at third.

Schibbelhute pitched a complete game while scattering seven hits, allowing two earned runs and striking out two.

The two teams will meet again Sept. 20 in Piedmont.

Piedmont is scheduled to host Enid tomorrow, Thursday, Sept. 2.
