Peggy Lou Reavis Cornelius was born on January 28, 1941, on a farm near Stigler, Oklahoma, to her parents Bill and Opal Reavis. She left this life on February 10, 2024. Growing up in a rural setting, Peggy developed a strong work ethic and a deep appreciation for nature. After graduating from Stigler High School, she embarked on a new chapter in her life when she moved to Oklahoma City.
It was in Oklahoma City that Peggy’s path crossed with that of her future husband, Earnie Cornelius. They fell in love and embarked on a lifelong journey together. Peggy and Earnie built what can only be described as the quintessential “all American life” for their family. They were devoted parents, providing their children with a loving and nurturing environment.
After raising her children, Peggy made the decision to further her education. In 1998, she obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Central Oklahoma. Armed with her newfound knowledge and passion for teaching, Peggy joined her husband at the family insurance agency, ECI Insurance. Together, they worked side by side, serving their community and building a successful business.
Peggy’s retirement marked a new chapter in her life, one where she could fully indulge in her love for gardening. She spent countless hours in her greenhouse, tending to her plants and creating a haven of beauty and tranquility. Peggy also had a deep appreciation for the arts, finding solace and inspiration in classical music and the world of literature. She was an avid reader and had a keen eye for art.
Throughout her life, Peggy was surrounded by the love and support of her family. She was preceded in death by her parents Bill and Opal Reavis; brother Kenneth Reavis; sister June Cantrell; and her son Scott Cornelius. She is survived by her loving husband; Earnie; sister (and best friend) Pat Rigual; brothers Don Reavis and David Reavis; daughters Denise Johnson and Joy Cornelius; son Roland Cornelius and all respective spouses; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews and many more.
Peggy’s warm and caring nature endeared her to all who knew her. She was a pillar of strength and support, always ready to lend a helping hand or offer a kind word. Her battle with Alzheimer’s disease was a challenging one, but throughout it all, she remained surrounded by the love and devotion of her family.
Peggy will be remembered as a woman of integrity, kindness, and unwavering love. Her legacy of commitment and support will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known her. As she rests in peace, her memory will live on in the hearts and minds of her loved ones, a testament to a life well-lived and a spirit that will never be forgotten.
