Just two days before the deadline for Oklahomans to apply for newly created tax credits for private schools, Holy Trinity Catholic School in Okarche is inviting people to a Saturday open house.

Free brisket, sandwiches and hot dogs are offered at 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3 at the school, N. 2nd Street and Missouri Street in Okarche.

There will be cornhole games in the gymnasium. Holy Trinity is a Catholic school for pre-kindergarten 3 to eighth grade. The open house was created last year at the school, Principal Alice Newman said.

“It’s a special occasion to get the kids and families together,” Newman said, who has been the principal for four years at the Okarche school.

This year, there are parental choice tax credit applications that are due Monday, February 5th. The tax credit program provides an income tax credit of $5,000 to $7,500 for those eligible for tuition and fees. The program was signed into law in December 2023.

The Okarche private school has buses that will travel to pick up students near Piedmont Road in Piedmont and near the Catholic Pastoral Center in northwest Oklahoma City near Northwest Expressway and Council Road.

Newman has recently promoted the tax credit that gives preference to taxpayers who earn less than $150,000 annually.

“We’ve had more students enroll and interest from people. Saturday is the last day of Catholic Schools week and we had it last year and it went really well,” Newman said.
