Southeast High School’s freshman running back Alexa Diaz scored the first touchdown of the night against Piedmont, and the Spartans from the Oklahoma City district looked like they had plenty of fight at Taft Stadium.
But Piedmont had too much offense, and injuries wore down the Spartans in Friday night’s game, and the Wildcats won 49-6, improving to 5-0.
Southeast opened the first quarter with three plays and a punt. But a roughing the punter penalty gave the Spartans the ball back and Diaz found an opening for a 39-yard scamper from the 50-yard line to the 11. He found the end zone for the first score on a 2-yard plunge.
The extra point was blocked.
Piedmont then busted several long runs including one from Ethan Shelton. But penalties kept being Piedmont’s problem on offense. Despite an illegal shift and illegal block, Cannon Wood found the end zone for the first TD. Jayden Fuston had a big night of long runs. Mikah Rocco had a 50-yard TD in the third quarter to put the Wildcats up 35-6. Fuston continued to elude defenders as several Spartans went down with injuries.
Piedmont improved to 5-0 for the first time since 2005.
