There was not a white Christmas in Canadian County this year after recent December snowfall melted, but there is a slight chance for wintry weather for the new year, 2021, the National Weather Service reported.
More than 4 inches of snow fell in Canadian County during mid-December. And there is a 30% chance for snow before noon on New Year’s Eve, Thursday, Dec. 31, the weather service reports.
On Wednesday, Dec. 30, the forecast called for gusty north winds up to 20 mph and a high temperature near 38 degrees. The chance of precipitation was 70%.
Late Wednesday, there was a slight chance of rain, snow and freezing rain before midnight with an overnight low early Thursday near 22 degrees. The chance of precipitation was 20%.
On Thursday, Dec. 31, the forecast called a slight chance of snow before noon, then a chance of rain, snow and freezing rain. The high temperature Thursday was expected to reach 36 degrees with a 30% chance of a wintry mix, the weather service reports.
For Friday, Jan. 1, New Year’s Day, skies will be mostly sunny with a high temperature near 41 degrees.
The overnight low early Saturday will be 24 degrees.
On Saturday, warmer weather returns. Skies will be sunny with a high temperature near 47 degrees.
The low temperature early Sunday will be 28 degrees. And then on Sunday, Jan. 3, skies will be sunny with a high temperature near 51 degrees.
Rainfall amounts in Canadian County for 2020 were down compared to 2019, according to the Oklahoma Mesonet website.
El Reno reported 42.70 inches of rain in 2019. But for 2020, the rainfall amount has been 32.31 inches, the Mesonet website reports.
Yukon had 47.22 inches of rain in 2019. A total for 2020 was not available this week from the Mesonet.
