On Sunday, October 25, families and businesses in the Surrey Hills subdivision banned together and created the Surrey Hills Ride-N-Seek Trunk-Or-Treat. Ceeja Malmkar and Lucas James hosted the social distance friendly event, which lasted from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Malmkar said, “It’s a neighborhood event that I came up with this year instead of our traditional trunk or treat, due to COVID. It was sort of a scavenger hunt. At 1 p.m., we released clues on our event page, Surrey Hills Ride-N-Seek Trunk-Or-Treat. The hunt took about 45 minutes to an hour for each participant. Trunks stayed open until 3 p.m. throughout the neighborhood. It was a free, family event for the whole neighborhood. We also had a digital neighborhood costume contest going on, on our event page.”
The event used the announcement section of the subdivision’s Facebook page, where organizers posted a printable game card. Each family printed one game card to keep in their vehicle during the event.
Starting at 1 p.m., participants found clues posted on the announcement page. In their vehicles, families followed the clues to each of the 10 stations, where they received their treats.
The game card had 10 circles on it because there were 10 treat stations. At each trunk-or-treat station, a person with a colored dobber stamped the family’s card.
The 10 trunk-or-treat locations were set up in Surrey Hills, either in driveways or other spots at the addresses. The addresses included private residences, the Surrey Hills Lions Club Park located on Hefner Road beside Surrey Hills Elementary School, the Golf Club at Surrey Hills parking lot at 11340 Surrey Hills Boulevard, and Minard Movement Chiropractic at 12110 Ashford Drive. Those giving out candy at the locations were asked to do so in a social distancing manner.
After having their cards marked with the ten differently colored dobbers, families went to a home base location. The first 10 families to arrive at home base received grand prize packs. All others received a completion prize.
Sponsors funded all the prizes, and included Becky Karpe, Realtor; On the Fence OKC; Surrey Hills Dental; Grace Communion Surrey Hills; Cal’s Chicago Style Eatery; The Pristine Salon & Spa; Lotus Gold Marijuana Dispensary; A Latte Love Coffee House.
