Tyeshia Anderson was selected to the 2020 Oklahoma Coaches Association All-State team, which was released Wednesday on the OCA website.
The Piedmont senior averaged 10.3 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists over 23 games played during the pandemic-shortened 2019-20 season, helping lead the Wildcats to the Class 5A state tournament for the second straight year. She also averaged a team-high 2.2 steals as one of the top defensive players in the state.
“It feels really good to have been selected,” Anderson said. “Although it’s not a state championship, it’s still a great feeling becoming an All-Stater.”
Wildcats coach Eric Carr praised Anderson over the last two seasons, pointing to the importance of her addition when she moved to Piedmont from Lawton.
“Ty was huge for us on the floor and off,” he said of the program’s third All-State nominee in the last two years. “She is a kid that came from a program that was struggling and became a leader and one of our best players when she arrived.
“The value in the way she helped our culture was huge, and she ended up being a go-to player for us down the stretch this season.”
Anderson, who signed to play at Redlands Community College in El Reno, helped lead the Wildcats to a Class 5A state championship in 2019 as well as back-to-back conference, regional and area titles. She was also selected to the Oklahoma Girls Basketball Coaches Association All-State team as well as first-team All-Conference and the OCA 5A All-Star team. She follows Raegan Crawford and Maci Attalla as OCA All-State nominees from Piedmont over the last two seasons.
The 2020 OCA All-State games are scheduled to be played July 29 at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa.
