Local restaurants are set to reopen for customers who have been missing for weeks on Friday, and Piedmont’s city manager is supporting efforts to recover locally.

“We’re just trying to keep people in business as much as possible,” City Manager Jason Orr said.

The city has had to lay off two long-time employees recently due to the downturn in the economy with the pandemic.

Although City Hall remains open by appointment only, the mayor has signed a proclamation following Gov. Stitt’s “Open Up and Recover Safely Plan.”

Restaurants can serve dine-in customers in Piedmont starting Friday, May 1.

Previous shelter at home orders during the COVID-19 pandemic affected what businesses could be open, but the city will not interfere with businesses that are open unless a complaint is made, Orr said.

Barber shops opened Friday, April 24, and churches can reopen with spacing in the pews.
