The red and white barber pole stood next to an open door at Bill’s Barber Shop in Piedmont Friday, a door that had been closed over a month.
Friday, Bill Sharp returned to work in Piedmont. His customers had waited for weeks.
Sharp snipped the growth on the top of customer James Hawk of Piedmont.
Sharp was busy with one customer at a time, as others waited outside. The aroma of the barbecue restaurant next-door open for carry-out, was in the air, and people waited in vehicles for a haircut.
“Hectic,” Sharp said, describing the day in one word. He closed the door March 21 and reopened Friday. The emergency orders had closed barber shops statewide due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Next-door to Bill’s, at 91 Monroe Avenue NE, another door was open once again Friday at hair stylist Leann Holland’s The Pristine Salon. The air from a warm, spring afternoon filled the salon.
Holland had another word to describe her day Friday, “Awesome!” she said, raising her hands in a victorious V-shape. About not having been able to work for so long. That she said, in a word, was “Boring!”
A customer wore a mask in the chair where Holland cut her hair Friday afternoon. Holland said she enjoyed being with family at home during the time off.
“It’s been nice having family. I’ve been having fun with my family,” Holland said.
The family at home is okay with her being back at work.
“They (family) are so thankful that we are back in business,” Holland said.
