Motorists going to the Piedmont Middle School are being re-routed for about two to three weeks while the main road to the school is closed during a sewer project.

Closed for the sewer project is N.W. Second street, from Jackson to the middle school. Motorists are being routed north from Jackson on N.E. First to Harrison, then west on Harrison back to the entrance to the school.

The closure began last Friday. The City of Piedmont has posted a map of the reroute on its website before the Friday closing, city manager Jason Orr said. He also said he believed school officials notified parents of affected students in advance of the closing.

Orr also said the city, school officials and the contractor met prior to the road closing and determined the re-route selected was the best possible option. He said the contractor is estimated it will take two to three weeks, weather permitting, to finish the work.
