WOODWARD – Piedmont scored 20 runs and held Woodward to two in a double-header sweep of the Boomers Tuesday.
Jacob Ellis gave up just one hit and a walk with eight strikeouts in a dominant five innings on route to the win in Piedmont’s Game 1, 8-0 win. He threw just 79 pitches in five innings before Caden Storts finished things off with three strikeouts in two innings of scoreless relief.
The Wildcats cracked the scoreboard in the third inning for a 1-0 lead before extending it with three runs in the fourth.
Skyler Fenton led off the top of the third with a walk before Dillon Dibrell reached on an error. Two batters late Dylan Hampton drove in Mason Teeter, pinch-running for Fenton, with a single to left field for a one-run lead.
Jared Gay got things going in the top of the fourth with a single to right field before a single to left by Casey Cooper. Tabor McClure followed with an RBI-groundout after Gay reached third on a wild pitch. Brady Thomas followed with a walk with Cooper at third before an RBI-groundout by Fenton for a 3-0 lead. Dillon Dibrell followed with an RBI-single to cap the inning and extend the lead to four runs.
The Cats tacked on one run in the fifth and one in the sixth before closing out the win with two runs in the seventh. Hampton and Cooper each finished with two hits, including a double by Cooper and each drove in a run. The team was active on the base-paths as Ben Abel, Jack Chester, Gay, Hampton, Teeter and Thomas each finished with one stolen base.

The Wildcats kept their momentum rolling in Game 2 of the double-header with a 12-2, run-rule win to improve to 3-0 in district play.
Piedmont tallied nine hits and cracked the scoreboard early with five runs in the first two innings. The Cats tallied seven more in the fifth to seal the victory.
Jack Chester led the way for Piedmont at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a homerun, a double and four RBIs. Dylan Hampton and Skyler Fenton each finished with two hits as well, including a double by Fenton. Hampton, Tabor McClure, Dillon Dibrell, Casey Cooper and Lane Morgan combined to drive in six runs as well.
Jared Gay picked up the win, giving up just two unearned runs while allowing five hits and two walks with seven strikeouts in a five-complete. He threw just 77 pitches.
The Wildcats improved to 8-3 on the season with the sweep and 3-0 in District 5A-2. The Cats sit in second place in the district behind Bishop McGuinness (6-7, 6-0) and head to Norman to take on the Class 6A Tigers Friday.
