
Kevan Blasdel, a former Piedmont city councilman, has died.
Blasdel also frequently attended city council meetings and community events until recently.
A graveside burial will be at the Kansas Cemetery under direction of Yanda Funeral Home in Yukon, according to Laura Sylvester of the Piedmont Area Veterans Association.
An email sent to members of the Piedmont Area Veterans Association reported that Blasdel died Thursday, March 6.
The email reads, “With heavy hearts and great sadness, we wanted to let you know that Kevan Blasdel passed away on Wednesday. Kevan was an active member of the community and longtime active PAVA member. He was always willing to jump in and help out in any way he could. We will miss him. Next time you are around the PAVA museum when it’s open, there is a great article about him from a few years ago in one of the scrapbooks.”
The graveside service will be at Kansas Cemetery at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 20 officiated by Pastor Ken Richter from Soldier Creek Christian Church, and will be followed immediately by a meal at the Piedmont Area Veterans Event Center.

State House District 41 Rep. Denise Crosswhite Hader of Piedmont said, “Marc (Hader) and I were so sad to hear about the passing of Kevan. He was always a cheerleader for Piedmont. I appreciate his service for our hometown and his military service to us all. He will be missed.”
Piedmont City Manager Josh Williams wrote, “We are all saddened to hear of the passing of Mr. Blasdel, a devoted public servant, respected community leader, and proud veteran. Throughout his years of service as a city councilman, Mr. Blasdel led with unwavering dedication, always striving to improve the lives of those in our city. His sharp candor, coupled with a genuine kindness, made him a trusted voice and a beloved figure in our community. Mr. Blasdel, A Vietnam War veteran, served his country with honor and distinction in the United States Army and was active with the Piedmont Area Veterans Association, where he participated in several initiatives to ensure veterans, and their families felt welcome. Another testament to Kevin’s servant leaderships.”
Williams continued:
“Beyond his time on the council, Mr. Blasdel remained deeply involved in civic affairs, serving on various committees, including the City Manager’s Budget Advisory Team. His keen insight and commitment to fiscal responsibility helped shape policies that benefited generations to come. No matter the role, he approached every challenge with honesty, fairness, and a heart for service.”
Mr. Blasdel was a man of great integrity, respected by all who had the privilege of working with him. His legacy of leadership, kindness, and dedication to community service will not be forgotten. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and all who mourn this tremendous loss. His impact will be felt for years to come.”
