There will be no school in Piedmont Thursday, Jan. 30 and Friday, Jan. 31, school district officials reported Tuesday.

The middle school and high school after school extracurricular activities and sporting events will continue as scheduled. Students who cannot participate will not be penalized, the district reported.

The Daddy-Daughter Dance is rescheduled to Saturday, February 8th. More information will be shared with ticket buyers via email directly, the district reported.

The district on Tuesday made an announcement that reads:

“All Piedmont School sites will be closed on Thursday, January 30th, and Friday, January 31st, 2025, due to a significant increase in illness among staff, substitute teachers, bus drivers, and students.

Unfortunately, the cold and flu season has impacted our district particularly hard. At this time, we are unable to maintain normal operations, including classroom instruction and bus routes, due to the high number of staff absences. Virtual learning will not take place during this closure. We have sufficient instructional days built into the calendar, so this will not result in an extension of the school year.

We understand any school closure causes inconvenience to our families. We hope announcing this closure now will give families time to make any necessary arrangements for their children.

During this closure, our custodial team will deep clean and disinfect all school buildings, buses, locker rooms, and other shared spaces. All instructional materials, including class Chromebooks, will also be thoroughly sanitized.

We encourage families to use this time to focus on staying or getting healthy. We hope this short break will allow everyone time to recover so that we can return to school feeling refreshed and ready to continue learning. We look forward to welcoming students back on Monday, February 3rd.

Thank you for your continued support.”

Buses to Canadian County Technology Center will continue to run for students who rely on this transportation.
