Two Piedmont School Board members filed to keep their seats on the board Monday at the Canadian County Election Board, and one will face a challenger in an election.
The filing period for those interested in being on the Piedmont School Board ended Wednesday, Dec. 4.
Piedmont Public Schools has a board position, Ward 5, to be decided in 2025 for a five-year term, and the district has an unexpired board seat, Ward 3, for the remaining three years.
Derek Jones, school board clerk, currently serves in Ward 5. Jones, 46, filed for the position on Monday at the Canadian County Election Board. He will not face a challenger.
Jerrod Moser, deputy clerk, currently represents Ward 3. Greg Duffy, who died in 2023, served on the board before Moser. Moser, 53, filed for the position Monday at the county election board office.
Moser will face a challenger. Courtney Davis, 35, filed for the position on the board for Ward 3 on Wednesday, the Canadian County Election Board reported.
Davis has worked for EnLink Midstream as a training supervisor for 10 years, is a diversity, equity and inclusion, DEI action team member, and has a bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health from Southeastern Oklahoma State University, complemented by a minor in elementary education. She has lived in Piedmont since 2020. She has three children currently attending schools within the Piedmont school district—one in kindergarten, another in sixth grade, and a freshman in high school.
“I am running because I believe in enhancing the educational experience for all students. I am committed to advocating for educational excellence and being a supportive resource for both students and teachers, fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment for everyone,” Davis wrote in an email.
School board members in Piedmont represent residents in specific areas of the district, or wards. Ward 3, that Moser currently represents, is on the southwest side of the district.
Ward 5, represented by Jones, is on the southeast side of the district.
The three-day filing period was during the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2, Tuesday, Dec. 3, and Wednesday, Dec. 4.
A primary election date is Tuesday, Feb. 11 if needed if more than two candidates file in the race. The general election date is Tuesday, April 1.
Part of the northern side of the Piedmont School District is in Kingfisher County.
