The Piedmont Historical Society will welcome resident Joshua Cain to the August monthly meeting as the keynote speaker.

“It gives me great pleasure to introduce to you Joshua Cain. Josh could be described as a community volunteer extraordinaire,” wrote society President Paul Francel in the August edition of their monthly newsletter.

In Piedmont, Cain has served as a principal officer, board member and treasurer for the Piedmont Area Veterans Association.

“This has been a major community involvement for Josh, for PAVA not only provides support for veterans, but also does charity work and provides its buildings for civic events and special occasions. It is no wonder that he married a woman named Charity because he might as well have taken that name as a middle name,” Francel wrote in the newsletter.

Cain has also served as president of the Piedmont Public Schools Education Foundation, an organization devoted to funding teachers in the classroom through grants, and helping teachers, Francel wrote.

“But I am not doing Josh justice without telling you about his life works and his beautiful family, and I would be incomplete if I didn’t tell you how awesome a human being Josh is. He is making a significant historical contribution to Piedmont, so he gets the privilege to talk to all of us about how great Piedmont is and how he is one of our leaders who is making it happen,” Francel wrote.

Cain was born and raised in Elk City. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. From 2003 to 2007 he served as a prison guard. After leaving the Marines he finished college at Southwestern Oklahoma State University and then completed his degree at the University of Oklahoma.

In 2013 he returned to the Marine Corps and served as an officer. Cain trained as a combat engineer officer and served as an operations officer for a combat logistics battalion.

In 2018 Cain changed careers to work as a financial advisor with Edward Jones.

“While building his business over the past six years he has found himself heavily involved in many civic organizations, and especially entrenched in the community of Piedmont,” Francel wrote.

He is on the boards of the PAVA, Piedmont Public Schools Education Foundation, Deer Creek Business Association and is an active member of the Piedmont Chamber of Commerce, Surrey Hills Lions Club, Putnam City Baptist Church Toastmasters.
