Piedmont police officer Jeremy Furr was injured Thursday in a motorcycle collision with a pickup in southeast Oklahoma and was hospitalized, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

Furr was driving a motorcycle about 2:15 p.m. Thursday on U.S. 271 about 4 miles west of Wister in LeFlore County when he pulled away from a stop sign and struck a pickup, the patrol reports. The intersection is in the Ouachita Mountains of eastern Oklahoma.

Furr, 28, of Yukon, was flown by helicopter to St. Vincent Hospital in Hot Springs, Arkansas with leg and internal injuries. He was admitted in critical condition, the patrol reports.

Furr was driving west on the motorcycle on Pocahontas Road where he stopped at a stop sign and then hit a pickup driven south on U.S. 271 by Kyle Carson, 54, of Alba, Texas. Carson had two passengers, Camacho Padron, 49, of Cipriano, Mexico and Juan Torres, 26 of Alba, Texas. The occupants of the pickup wore seat belts and were not injured, the patrol reports. Furr’s condition was apparently normal at the time of the collision. The cause of the collision is reported as failure to yield from the stop sign.

Piedmont police reported that Furr was in a “catastrophic” motorcycle accident on Thursday.
