Blake Stout, the youth pastor with Soldier Creek Church of Christ in Piedmont, pulled up with lots of turkeys in the trunk.
The congregation had heard of the need for food being collected for Thanksgiving Day baskets at the Piedmont Service Center, 415 Piedmont Road. Flour, sugar, sweet potatoes and corn were a few food items needed. So Stout made a delivery.
People were already getting their food baskets on a blustery day with gray skies Thursday, Nov. 16.
“”They had some immediate needs, so we put together a food drive and the church donated over the last weekend,” Stout said.
Karen Reich said donations were pouring in.
“It’s wonderful. We’ve never had as much food at one time as we’ve got today and we’ve got two more pickup-fulls coming,” Reich said Nov. 16.
Outside, Joette Jones, wearing a yellow T-shirt, pushed a tray through a gravel drive-thru lane to get to the donations from Stout’s vehicle.
Sara Pippins was also there to help unload.
The Piedmont Service Center was opened through Tuesday, Nov. 21, and closed on Thanksgiving Day.
The center will start working on the Christmas baskets next, and hams are needed for those holiday meals for people in the community, Reich said.
