The Piedmont Turkey Trot that has raised money for children living in foster homes for four years has been canceled for 2023, an organizer said.

Organizer Keri Layton of Piedmont, said several other people who helped state the event have recently moved.

“We are saddened to not be able to continue this tradition,” Layton said.

The Turkey Trot was organized to benefit Bright Sky Ministry. Over the past four years the events on Thanksgiving Day raised $50,000 for the ministry.

The proceeds went directly to buying “essential items” such as beds, car seats and diapers for foster families across the state, Layton said.

“Bright Sky Ministry relies on community support,” Layton said. “Piedmont has been so gracious and generous to us.”

She said she hopes others may bring the Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot, a 5K run and a one mile fun run and walk, back in future years.

“It’s been a great run,” Layton said.
