On a chilly day with temperatures in the upper 40s, the rain stayed away, and the Piedmont cross country girls’ team had a chance for a state title Saturday in the Class 6A cross country meet at Edmond Santa Fe High School.
The girls’ team average time in the 5K run was 19:02.00, and they placed second overall behind Owasso.
Jenks was third overall followed by Edmond North, Edmond Memorial, Deer Creek, Bishop Kelley, Bartlesville, Tulsa Union, Edmond Santa Fe, Norman North, Norman High, Choctaw High and Yukon High School finishing in 14th place.
For Piedmont, Claire Collins finished ninth individually with a time of 18:33.44.
Brooke Collins finished 11th with a time of 18:37.02. Emily Caldwell finished 15th with a time of 18:40.65. Anna Caldwell was 24th with a time of 19:05.16.
McKenna Auringer finished 50th, 20:13.72. Maya Daniels finished 101st, 22:28.49.
And Kira Dankenbring finished 103rd, 22:33.66.
The Wildcat boys finished fourth overall with an average time of 16:24.15.
Dade Humes finished ninth individually with a time of 15:52.68. He was followed by Nelin Kimery, 16:05.26; Cohen McIntosh, 16:22.15; Riley Pauley, 16:37.88; Beckam Humes, 17:02.77; Jackson Scott, 17:03.11 and Landry Finch, 17:24.92.
Deer Creek High School boys won the state title. Deer Creek was followed by Mustang, Edmond North, Piedmont, Owasso, Edmond Santa Fe, Broken Arrow, Edmond Memorial, Moore, Bishop Kelley, Westmoore, Yukon, Norman North and Tulsa Union.
