Piedmont and Noble clash in a ‘Zero Week’ opener tonight at Noble High School. Kickoff is set for 8. Here are three matchups to watch during tonight’s game.

Piedmont’s secondary vs. Noble’s spread passing game
Noble quarterback Colin Fisher – an Arkansas baseball commit – and receiver Brandon Harper form one of the most formidable quarterback-wide receiver duos in the state. Last year, Noble exploited the Wildcats secondary on its way to a 49 points, but the Wildcats secondary is improved and more athletic this season. The Bears will make some plays, Piedmont’s defense has to make some, too.

There are clashes of styles and then there’s the dichotomy of these two teams offensively.  Piedmont is happy to grind out productive drives three and four yards at a time. The Wildcats offense is truly methodical while Noble is the polar opposite. The Bears run a no-huddle, up-tempo offense that relies heavily on the pass. Which style will win out?

Noble’s defensive line vs. Piedmont’s running game
The battle in the trenches plays a key role in the every game and it might be the deciding factor tonight. Piedmont ran wild against Noble’s defense a season ago. If the Wildcats control the line of scrimmage again, Piedmont will probably win the game this time.

“The team that is more physical will win the game,” PHS head coach Jeff Hall said.
