Canadian County Spring Livestock Show 2022 gross receipts totaled $250,650 – a new record and exceeding 2021’s history-making $227,703 total, Canadian County Fair Board officials say.
Premium buyers contributed $148,000 to that amount, while add-on bonus comprised $102,650 of that total..
The sale of 4-H and FFA member’s livestock projects wrapped up last week’s Canadian County Spring Livestock Show. The event concluded with a Premium Auction at the new Canadian County Expo and Events Center.
Canadian County Fair Board President Kelly Beck was extremely proud and satisfied with the enthusiasm engulfing an all-time record auction crowd of more than 850 people.
Beck was happy with all aspects of the sale in the new Canadian County Expo & Event Center, located near El Reno at 3001 Jensen Road East.
“Friday night’s crowd was totally in awe as the sale transpired and put a center stage spotlight on each of the 90 exhibitors selling an animal project,” he said. “As much as there was an emotional factor for last year being the final sale at our old fairgrounds, the new Expo and Events Center has opened a door on a bright future for our Spring Livestock Shows and Sales in the years to come.”
“The entire fair board would like to tip our hats to everyone who played a part supporting the youth of Canadian County,” Beck said. “We’re especially grateful to our premium auction buyers and those who added bonus money to each of the 90 exhibitors in our auction.”
This year’s Grand Champion Market Steer was a Crossbred steer exhibited by Jack Hornberger of Yukon FFA. His 1,377-pound steer brought a total of $3,000 and was purchased by Bennett Construction.
Garrison Straka of Yukon FFA exhibited the Grand Champion barrow. His 249-pound Crossbred barrow sold for $1,000.00 and was purchased by Gold Buckle Construction.
Next, the gavel dropped on a Grand Champion Market Lamb owned by Callen Minard of Miller 4-H. His 202-pound Shropshire lamb netted a total premium of $1,000. The buyer of Callen’s lamb was Bennett Construction.
Finally, it was the meat goat’s turn to be sold front and center under the gavel of auctioneer Jon Cooper. The Grand Champion Goat exhibitor was Baylor Pearson of El Reno FFA. His 82-pound market goat wether sold for $2,000 in premiums. The buyers who purchased Baylor’s market animal were Hudiburg and El Reno’s Buyer’s Group.
This year we sold our top three breeding animals in all species: heifers, gilts, ewe lambs and doe goats. The Grand Champion heifer, gilt and ewe lamb sold for a total of $3,200 going to Kayden Offolter, Davis Morris, and Madison Graham, respectively.
The highest premium paid Friday evening went to our Reserve Grand Barrow shown by Dylan Armitage of Yukon FFA. His 241-pound Cross barrow was purchased by Gene Downing Holdings for a total of $10,000.
As for the Reserve Grand Champion Steer, Audrey Bilderback of El Reno FFA sold her Chianina steer for $1,750 to El Reno Buyers Group. Our Reserve Grand Meat Goat was shown by Kenna Gay of Yukon 4-H and brought $500 after being purchased by Straka Livestock.
The Reserve Grand females brought a total of $4,800 with the heifer being shown by Emery Bowers, the gilt by Ian Morris, the ewe lamb by Rylee Harland, and doe goat by Kennidee Kenne.
Seven Bronze animal exhibitors sold their projects for a total of $7,950. Bronze exhibitors in this year premium auction included: Brantlie Charmasson, Madison Shout, Josie Felton, Rayli Wright, Rylan Fleenor, Roman Hinkle, and Kyla Bonds.
Just prior to the sale, our 2022 Livestock Show Scholarship recipients were announced and given their awards. First place and a $1,000 scholarship went to Kate Dillion, of Mustang FFA, $750 was awarded to Annie Ames of Mustang FFA, and $500 was awarded to each Jace Chambless of Calumet FFA, Anna Blasius from Mustang FFA, and Parker Symes of Yukon FFA.
