Staffing shortages at two Piedmont Public Schools sites for younger students have resulted in a plan for temporary remote learning.

Piedmont Early Childhood Center and Stone Ridge Elementary will shift to “short-term virtual instruction” for the rest of the week, starting Wednesday, Jan. 12.

Students and staff members who are not ill or exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms may return to in-person learning Tuesday, Jan. 18.

Monday, Jan. 17 is the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday and there is no school.

“Piedmont Schools is committed to making every effort to provide in-person instruction for our students. PPS district leaders are closely monitoring COVID-19 cases and staff and student absences at all school sites,” a message sent to patrons in the district read Tuesday afternoon.

Stone Ridge Elementary School had 15 students and six staff members with active cases Jan. 10, district officials reported.

And Piedmont Early Childhood Center had 14 students and nine staff members with active cases, district officials reported.
