A Piedmont School Board candidate’s filing has been challenged by another candidate, said Canadian County Election Board Secretary Wanda Armold.
Robyn Hopkins was one of four candidates to file for the Ward Two seat. The filing period ended Wednesday, Dec. 8.
Another candidate, Tamra States, 2016 Chestnut Circle, late Friday filed a petition to contest Hopkins’ candidacy, Armold said.
The petition states that Hopkins, 451 Elm N.W., is a registered voter in Ward Four of the Piedmont School District boundaries, not Ward Two.
“Robyn Hopkins has not been a registered voter in the correct ward (Ward Two) for at least six months which is a requirement of a candidate running for Piedmont School Board Ward Two,” the petition states.
Armold said a hearing regarding the challenge will be in her office at the Canadian County Election Board at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 16.
Other candidates who have filed include Katie Cornman, 723 Apache Road, N.E., and Christopher Jantz, 2266 Birch Avenue N.W.
A primary election for more than two candidates is Tuesday, Feb. 8 with the runoff Tuesday, April 5.
