Piedmont is headed back to the state tournament.

The Lady Wildcats swept through their home regional with a 3-0 record capped off with a 12-1 run-rule win over Altus Friday afternoon.

After failing to reach the state tournament last season, Piedmont bounced back in resounding fashion.

“I thought (our team) handled themselves really well and they have all year,” head coach Keith Coleman said. “We’ve had some big games and some big crowds and we’ve done a good job with that.”

Piedmont (32-6) outscored its opposition 35-1 in three consecutive run-rule victories.

“We pitched really well,” Coleman said. “When you do that, it makes managing a lot easier.”

The state tournament begins Thursday at Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City. That bracket will be released on Monday afternoon or Tuesday morning.

Piedmont is tentatively scheduled to host Bristow Tuesday evening at 6.

“I always like to play a game or two before the state tournament to stay sharp,” Coleman said.
