COVID-19 cases drop in Piedmont schools

Cases of COVID-19 have increased in Piedmont Public Schools as of Jan. 7.

The latest numbers of COVID-19 cases reported to Piedmont Public Schools officials went down in a week’s time.

As of Friday, Sept. 24, the district had 4,833 students, and 21 students and two staff members had reported positive cases. There were 199 students recommended for quarantine and 21 staff members who were absent.

The district reports Sept. 24 that Piedmont High School has 1,267 students and five students and one staff member were positive. There were 65 students recommended for quarantine.

On Sept. 17, the district reported 30 students positive and three staff members positive. On Sept. 10, there were 45 students and six staff members positive for the virus.

Quarantines are not required in Piedmont schools this fall unless the person is positive or has symptoms. Those who come in close contact with someone with COVID-19 are recommended for quarantine.

The Middle School of Piedmont had 790 students with three students positive as reported on Sept. 24. There were 48 students recommended for quarantine.

At Stone Ridge Elementary School Sept. 24 there were 554 students, and three students and one staff member were positive with 34 students recommended for quarantine. Four staff members were absent.

Piedmont Elementary School had 452 students with no positive cases.

Northwood Elementary School had 445 students and one student who had tested positive for COVID-19. Eight students were recommended for quarantine.

Piedmont Early Childhood Center had 616 students with one student positive and 11 students recommended for quarantine.

Since the pandemic started in March, 2020, Piedmont has had 11 deaths, 1,642 cases and 1,591 people have recovered, according to the Oklahoma State Department of Health.

Yukon has had the 102nd death from COVID-19, the health department reported on Wednesday, Sept. 29.

The numbers of cases are reported by the health department weekly.

Yukon has also had 12,164 cases and 11,833 people have recovered.

El Reno has had 50 deaths, 3,078 cases and 2,972 people recover since the pandemic started in March 2020.

Mustang has also reported 50 deaths, 3,786 cases and 3,658 people recover.

Kingfisher has had 21 deaths, 1,033 cases and 996 people have recovered.

Okarche has had five deaths, 297 cases and 292 people have recovered.

Canadian County has had 224 deaths, 21,936 cases and 21,289 people have recovered.

The state health department reports 8,949 deaths and 1,874,082 people have been fully vaccinated.
