Piedmont schools enrollment tops 4,900

Piedmont Elementary School Principal Brandi Skokowski walked with Elijah Diehl, 8 and Samuel Diehl, 6, after school Monday to meet their mom.

Terra Diehl stood on the north side of the elementary school. The family moved to Piedmont this year from Arapaho in Custer County. The boys are adjusting to their new school, she said.

“Everybody says this is a small town, but I just laugh because Arapaho is 500 people,” Terra Diehl said.

Elijah started second grade and his brother Samuel started first grade at Piedmont Elementary School, Terra Diehl said.

There are more than 4,900 students enrolled in Piedmont Public Schools this fall.

Dr. James White, Piedmont Superintendent said the enrollment number Wednesday was 4,901.
“We are still enrolling students, and also checking with the ones that haven’t shown up yet.  The number may fluctuate for the next week or so,” White said.
Masks are recommended.
“Right now, we are strongly encouraging masks and our plan is to continue to do so.,” White said.
He said the district will update the website dashboard on Fridays this year with current COVID-19 case numbers
As of Tuesday, there were 28 students who had tested positive for COVID-19.

Elementary school in Piedmont starts at 8:30 a.m. and the day ends at 3:30 p.m. Piedmont Intermediate, middle school and high school hours are 7:50 a.m. to 2:50 p.m.

The Piedmont Wildcats cross country varsity teams will be in the Deer Creek High School meet Saturday, Aug. 21. The first football game is against El Reno on Friday, Sept. 3 in El Reno.
