Piedmont’s volleyball team has a chance to make an early season statement Thursday evening when the Lady Wildcats host traditional power Mount St. Mary’s.

PHS, which was one win from making the state tournament last season, is off to a 5-2 start after downing Noble at home on Tuesday night.

A win over MSM would be a strong message that the ‘Cats are a real state tourney contender again this season.

Piedmont has wins over Del City, Cache, Skiatook, Heritage Hall and Noble after a strong showing at the Commando Cascia Hall Shootout in the Tulsa area last weekend.

“The kids are working hard and buying into what we’re teaching them,” head coach Tom Williams said. “But we still have some work to do.”

The Rockets are 3-0 so far this season. They made the state championship game last season and claimed state titles in 2013 and 2016.

After facing Mt. Saint Mary’s, PHS will travel to the Westmoore Tournament beginning Friday.
