Piedmont police officer Elizabeth Dougherty is ready for the fall semester in Piedmont schools.

Children will be riding bikes, walking, and the older kids driving, to make it to Piedmont Public Schools where classes started the morning of Thursday, Aug. 12.

There are more than 4,800 students enrolled in the district for the fall.

Fines can more than double for speeders in school zones, where the speed limit is 25 mph when the lights are flashing.
