Spider-man, Captain America, Elsa and Belle were characters who came to life at the Piedmont Library’s “Tails and Tales” summer reading program on Tuesday, July 13.

It was the last Tuesday for the library series of in-person events, said Olivia Blackketter, children’s librarian.

There have been visits on Tuesday mornings at the library this summer from exotic animals, jugglers, acrobats, law officers and firefighters.

Bryleigh Heim, Kash Krittenbrink, 4, Kamden Heim, 5, and Carter Krittenbrink, 2, were greeted by Captain America and Spider-man during the meet the characters day.

Kaci Gayle Myers, Allie Derry, 4, and Annie Derry, 6, of Hinton, met characters Belle and Elsa. The costumed Disney characters were from My Princess and Character Parties of Edmond.

There were hundreds of children who attended the Tuesday events for “Tails and Tales,” Blackketter said.

“It was great. I think our community was excited to be back together, and this was a perfect avenue for it. We had a ton of readers who did a lot of reading with their reading logs,” Blackketter said.

There were about 370 children who logged their reading time this summer. Those who read for 20 minutes a day were eligible for prizes.

“We’re just thrilled with the turnout, and we’ve been happy to be a place where our community can get back together,” Blackketter said.
