Piedmont baseball is headed back to the state tournament.

Led by a complete game gem from pitcher Bo Phelps, the ‘Cats downed Duncan 2-1 Thursday evening in Piedmont.

Phelps struck out five and allowed just two hits and an earned run to help Piedmont (30-8) complete a three-game regional sweep. PHS beat Duncan 5-3 on Wednesday.

Noah Smith provided the game-winning RBI single for the Wildcats in the top of the sixth after Caleb Riggs tripled to right field with two outs.

Smith finished 1-for-1 with two RBI’s and reached base via walk twice.

The Demons (21-15) made five errors in the game

On Wednesday, four games were played with three teams.  In the first game of the day, Piedmont defeated Ardmore 10-0.  In the second game, Duncan beat Guymon 21-1.

The third game saw Duncan and Piedmont face off in a back and forth match with Piedmont coming out on top 5-3.  Piedmont was led on the mound by Junior Caleb Lunnon who only allowed nine hits over seven innings.

In the final game of the night, Guymon eliminated Ardmore to advance to the 4:30 p.m. Thursday contest where the Tigers are playing against Duncan.  The winner of that game will advance to play to play the Wildcats.  Piedmont only needs one victory to clinch a trip to the state tournament.
