A candidate for a Piedmont City Council seat has announced he has withdrawn from the race.

Steve Bottkol will not seek the seat for Piedmont’s Ward IV.

Voters go to the polls on Tuesday, April 6 to decide two city council seats in Piedmont in Ward IV and Ward II.

“Due to unforeseen circumstances that have recently occurred in my life, I am withdrawing from running for the Ward 4 City Council position in Piedmont,” Bottkol stated. “I’ve always felt that if I can’t devote 100% to what I’m doing, I should step aside and let someone more capable. With that being said, I feel that Jonathan Hisey is the person most aligned with my views and am endorsing him for Ward 4 City Council position,” Bottkol said.

Bottkol said he does not have any further comment on his announcement. He said he will continue to serve on the Piedmont Planning and Zoning Commission.

After John Brown resigned in July, 2020 from Ward IV, the council appointed Jack Jackson.
Jackson has filed for the Ward IV seat and will face Jonathan T. Hisey.

Hisey said he has known Bottkol since they served together on the Ad Hoc Road Committee in fall 2019.

Bottkol’s name will remain on the ballots for Piedmont voters since he did not withdraw in time to remove his name, said Canadian County Election Board Secretary Wanda Armold.

The Canadian County Election Board has also reported that Mitch Henley and Ron Cardwell have filed for the Ward II seat.

Cardwell is a superintendent for Oklahoma County Highway District 3 who has served on the Piedmont Planning Commission.

Bobby Williamson, incumbent for Piedmont City Council Ward II, did not seeking re-election this year.
