Piedmont Ward II City Councilman Bobby Williamson will not seek re-election to the seat open in an April 6 election.

Williamson said he thinks it is time to step aside.

“I am proud to serve on the Piedmont City Council. Challenges to municipal government are always on the horizon, and for the past nine years, I have done my best to give constituents a voice in their resolution,” Williamson said.

“Although I have been honored to represent the citizens of Ward 2, I feel that now what is best for the future of Piedmont is an infusion of new leadership with fresh ideas and novel approaches to problems that we all will face as a community.  In light of that, I have chosen to step aside, and not seek re-election.  Shelly, the boys, and I are thankful for the opportunity that we were given to make a difference.”

Williamson recalled the recent years.
“When I first ran for City Council, Shelly and I were – and still are – working parents trying to keep up with kids in school and extracurricular activities.  It seemed like there was just never enough time.  Then I found a cause that I believed in, and I got involved to try and make a difference.  It is impossible for me to personalize that cause for every citizen of Piedmont, but I know that there are many community-minded individuals waiting in the wings with creative solutions and the passion to see them through.  I encourage them to step into the spotlight, and I look forward to supporting their efforts.”

The filing period for candidates for the seat opens at the Canadian County Election Board at 8 a.m. Monday, Feb. 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 3.
