The line of voters wrapped around the east side of Piedmont First Baptist Church and stretched to the north on Election Day, 2020.

Under sunny skies, with power lines down across the street, and a pile of tree debris at the front entrance of the church building, voters waited more than an hour during the noon hour to cast their ballots.

Kayci Bynum, waited to vote with her daughters also in line, Audrey, 4 and Emmie, 8.

Voters said they had waited about 45 minutes to get past the half-way mark.

All polling places in Piedmont were open as power was restored. About 300 outages remained Tuesday in Piedmont, but freezing weather of the previous week was gone.

Crews reported power was restored to all voting precincts in Canadian County.

Early voting took place from Thursday, Oct. 29 through Saturday, Oct. 31 at the Canadian County Election Board in El Reno and the Kingfisher County Election Board in Kingfisher.

Melissa Ashford, Piedmont City Councilwoman for Ward V, said the line outside Piedmont United Methodist Church stretched a quarter mile to Windmill Park. People were practicing social distancing in the line, making it long, with 6 feet distance between voters.

Ashford prepared to cast her vote about 1 p.m.

“I’m excited we have such a huge turnout today. I’m glad to see people getting out and exercising heir right to vote,” Ashford said.
