The live, 2020 graduation ceremony for Piedmont High School planned for Thursday night has been canceled.

The ceremony was scheduled to be at Scissortail Park in Oklahoma City.

Superintendent James White posted a letter to students and patrons on the district’s Facebook page Tuesday.

As cases of COVID-19 continue to spike to record numbers, we have made the extremely difficult decision to cancel our commencement and graduation celebration scheduled for Thursday, July 16, 2020, at Scissortail Park. We are deeply disheartened to announce this news, knowing that our students, families, and school community have been looking forward to this event for months,” White wrote.

“We are proud of the accomplishments and resilience of the Class of 2020. Although we cannot celebrate together in-person, we are grateful we had the opportunity to honor our Seniors with our Virtual Graduation in May.

We wish each graduate the best of luck as they embark on the next steps of their journey. We know these unprecedented times will not define each of you as individuals, but will instead reveal your immense amount of perseverance.”
