An attempt to discuss the future of City Manager Jason Orr in an executive session failed at a Piedmont City Council meeting Monday night.
Orr’s contract, and job, will remain in place, as the council took no action Monday despite a local petition calling for the city council to not renew Orr’s contract.

Monday night, a motion for the council to discuss Orr’s job performance failed with only Councilman Al Gleichmann, Ward III, supporting the agenda item.

“We need to have a vote tonight because people are going to go crazy,” Gleichmann said.

The motion for the executive session did not get a second vote and failed.

Mayor Kurt Mayabb said the council should renegotiate the city manager’s contract and evaluate his performance.

“I don’t understand why we are not doing that,” Mayabb.

A resident who spoke at the meeting, Jonathan Hisey, said he has gathered 258 signatures on a petition calling the council to not renew Orr’s contract.
Hisey said after the meeting Monday he does not plan to continue circulating the petition.
