Piedmont’s state of emergency proclamation has been extended through May 31, City Manager Jason Orr said.

The Piedmont City Council met Monday to discuss the city’s financial shape during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and layoffs were discussed. Layoffs of two employees were announced Wednesday morning.

The city’s fiscal year budget is about $11 million. Sales tax revenue is expected to be down for March and April.

No decision has been made about whether to cancel the Piedmont Fourth of July fireworks display this year.

“We have started to discuss it,” Orr said.
