Strong defense and a late run spurred No. 2 Piedmont to a 50-37 win over No. 10 Del City Tuesday night at Collette Fieldhouse.

The Wildcats held the Eagles to just 25-percent shooting and used a 18-6 run in the final eight minutes to help seal the victory. The win marks the fifth straight overall for Eric Carr’s squad and the third straight against top-10 opponents.

Piedmont jumped out to a 14-9 lead in the first quarter before entering halftime with a 24-22 advantage after a 13-10 run by the Eagles in the second quarter. Del City won a 9-8 advantage in the third quarter before the Cats’ 18-6 run in the final eight minutes to ice the win.

Senior Tyeshia Anderson and junior Delanie Crawford led the Wildcats offensively with 14 points apiece. Anderson scored 14 points on 5-for-12 shooting with six rebounds and four steals while Crawford scored 14 on 6-for-16 shooting while grabbing nine rebounds with four steals and two assists. Junior Maddy Lee scored nine points with seven boards while sophomore Triniti Harmon scored six points. Junior Kaelen Edwards scored four points and senior Rain Peyton chipped in three.

Piedmont shot 40-percent from the field overall and went 6-for-13 from three-point range. The Cats forced 15 turnovers which led to 15 points and outscored the Eagles 22-4 in the paint. Piedmont also won the rebounding battle 36-26.

The Cats turn their sights to No. 17 Shawnee Friday night in the final home game of the regular season before traveling to Class 4A Weatherford Tuesday.
