Piedmont picks up fifth win, awaits release of regional pairings

EL RENO – The Wildcats finished off the regular season in style Tuesday night.

Piedmont (5-18) gutted out a five-set win over Canadian County rival El Reno (11-14), a much-needed victory as the Cats prepare for the Class 5A postseason.

The Wildcats dropped the first set 20-25, but bounced back to tie the match with a 25-16 second-set win. El Reno regained the lead with a 25-17 win in the third set before the Cats once again tied the match with a 25-12 win in the fourth set. Piedmont won the fifth set 15-10 to claim their fifth win of the season.

Piedmont finished with 55 kills, 48 assists and 22 aces against the Indians.

Junior Gracie Myatt led the team with 20 kills on 39 attempts while freshman Kaylie Marshall finished with 16 on 27 attempts. Sophomore Joanna Hunter finished with seven kills while freshman Alleyah Hamblin finished with five.

Freshman Macy Lee led the team with 23 assists while Hunter finished with 22. Lee also led the team with seven service aces while senior Chloe Parker finished with six.

The Cats finished with 69 digs defensively. Parker and sophomore Leyla Rallo led the team with 14 while Hunter finished with nine. Lee finished with seven digs and sophomore Lily Humphries finished with six.

Piedmont now awaits regional pairings to kick off the 2019 Class 5A postseason. The pairings are expected to be released this week. Regional tournaments are scheduled to be played Oct. 14 with the state tournament at Claremore and Catoosa scheduled for Oct. 21-22.
