Boys Basketball: Wildcats cap regular season with win at Ponca City

LAWTON – Second-ranked Piedmont dominated the first half on rout to a 67-45 win over Lawton Mac Tuesday night on the road, the team’s second straight win after a loss to Class 6A No. 2 Shawnee last week.

The Wildcats jumped out to a 18-9 lead after the first eight minutes and never looked back. They tacked on in the second quarter to carry a 38-18 lead into halftime. After the break, Piedmont again tacked on with a 19-15 run in the third before closing the game out with 10 points in the fourth.

Three players scored in double-digits for Piedmont, including sophomore Delanie Crawford and seniors Regan Crawford and Maci Attalla. Delanie Crawford scored 18 points on 5-for-8 shooting and grabbed eight rebounds with six assists. Regan Crawford scored 16 points on 5-for-12 shooting with six rebounds and five assists while Attalla scored 13 points on 5-for-11 shooting with four boards, an assist and two blocks.

Junior Rain Peyton and Tyeshia Anderson each scored seven points as well while senior Jaymy Foister scored four. Sophomore Maddy Lee also scored two points.

The Wildcats shot 41-percent from the field in the win, including 30-percent from three-point range on seven makes. The team also went 12-for-14 from the free-throw stripe. Mac shot just 38-percent from the field and hit just three triples.

Piedmont scored 19 points off 16 turnovers and turned 12 offensive rebounds into 14 second-chance points. The team dominated inside, scoring 26 points in the paint while Mac racked up just 18. The Cats won the battle on the boards, 35-29.

With regionals in sight, the Wildcats turn to their final opponent of the regular season Friday night as they take on Ponca City on the road, scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

Regionals are scheduled for Feb. 21-23. Piedmont’s girls will host Santa Fe South at 8 p.m. on Feb. 21.
