Swimming: Piedmont closes season at 2019 Class 5A State Meet in Edmond

2019 CLASS 5A REGIONAL SWIM MEET

EDMOND – The Piedmont swim teams qualified for the 2019 Class 5A State Swim Meet in nine events after an impressive showing at the 5A Regional Meet at the Mitch Park YMCA in Edmond last weekend.

Five Wildcat individuals qualified in four events, including Ashlee Milenski and Sydni Hardwick for the girls and Kaleb Welch, Malcolm Williams and Carson Lybarger (So.) qualified for the boys. Four Piedmont relay teams qualified, including two apiece from each team.

Milenski finished 11th in the girls 50-yard freestyle with a time of 29.87 while Hardwick finished 11th in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:06.25. Welch qualified in two events for the boys, finishing 11th in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.63 and 12th in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 56.94. Williams finished 10th in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.36 and LyBarger finished eighth in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:14.06.

The Wildcat girls’ 200-yard freestyle relay team of Jaiden New, Taylor Rycroft, Hardwick and Milenski finished fourth with a time of 1:58.40 while the same group finished fourth in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

Piedmont’s boys team of Cole Milenski, Regan Watters, Williams and Welch finished sixth in the 200-yard freestyle relay while the same group finished sixth in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

The girls team nabbed a top-10 finish, placing eighth with 75 points in the meet. Carl Albert’s girls placed first with 451 points while Altus placed second with 318 and Harrah placed third with 283.5.

Piedmont’s boys finished seventh with 84 points. Altus’ boys won the meet with 471 points while Carl Albert finished second with 274 and Duncan finished third with 264.

Overall the Wildcats combined to place seventh with 159 points while Altus placed first with 789, Carl Albert second with 725 and Duncan third with 480.5.

The 2019 Class 5A State Swim Meet is scheduled for next Friday and Saturday, Feb. 15 and 16 at the Mitch Park YMCA in Edmond. Prelims will be raced Friday and championship races will be held Saturday.
