Piedmont is heading back to familiar territory.

The Wildcats punched their ticket to the 2018 State Tournament last week with a 12-2 win over Guymon in the Regional Championship last week.

“It’s one of those deals where we kind of expected it,” coach Keith Coleman said after the win over Guymon. “Everything we’ve done has come with an end in mind. We break it down into three parts, the district season, regionals and state. We’ve accomplished the first two, now it’s time to go play well for three more days.”

Piedmont accomplished the first two in fine fashion, running the table in district-play and in the Regional Tournament. Now the field is set.

The Cats open up the State Tournament against Guthrie on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at 11 a.m. The rest of the field includes Pryor, Collinsville, Tahlequah, Durant, Woodward and Carl Albert. If Piedmont wins, they will take on either Pryor or Collinsville in the Semifinals scheduled for Friday at 11 a.m. The finals are scheduled for Saturday at 2:30 p.m. All games will be played at the Ballfields at Firelake in Shawnee.

Piedmont will also look to take the next step.

Last year the Cats lost in the State Finals to Carl Albert. There could be a rematch ahead as the Titans are set on the opposite side of the bracket.

“I trust these kids,” Coleman said. “As long as I’ve coached I can’t say that about every team. I know how they respond and handle adversity. If we play well, we’ll have a chance.”
