Heavy rain has caused erosion under one east to west connector road that borders Canadian and Kingfisher counties and traverses across the northern part of the City of Piedmont.

On Thursday morning, May 1, the city of Piedmont reported Waterloo Road, also Azalea Road in Piedmont, has been closed between Sara and Mustang Roads.

“Waterloo Rd. east of Mustang Rd. and west of Sara Rd. is CLOSED In both directions until further notice,” a City of Piedmont post on Facebook read.

Crews closed Azalea/Waterloo at Sara and Mustang Road intersections. Only local traffic was allowed past the barricades before repairs could be made.

A tinhorn drainage pipe runs under the road just west of Aaron Way, a private road that runs north of Azalea/Waterloo and into Kingfisher County.

Also, high water was along Morgan between NW 178 and NW 192 / Arrowhead Road.

Piedmont crews are, “evaluating roads with these large-scale rain events and it’s getting to the point where there might be some road closures coming soon,” the City of Piedmont reported on Facebook.

The National Weather Service reported the Piedmont area was under a flood watch Wednesday. About 3 inches of rain had fallen in a 24-hour period in Yukon and the Piedmont area, the Oklahoma Mesonet Network reported.
