On the first offensive play from scrimmage, Piedmont’s quarterback Grayson May pitched the ball to the right to Jayden Fuston. Fuston raced 50 yards down the sideline for the first score. It was that easy for the Wildcats Friday night at Taft Stadium.
It was also the first of four TDs from Fuston in the first half of the Friday night game in the historic stadium in Oklahoma City.
The Piedmont Wildcats, 2-2, led the Northwest Classen Knights after the first half 48-6. The final score was 61-6.
Piedmont’s leading tackler on defense, Lane Whitworth, also caught a 30-yard touchdown pass from May on offense to give the Wildcats a 27-6 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Linebacker Ian Mitchell had a sack of the Knights’ quarterback at the 5-yard line to set the defensive tone early. The punt was to the Northwest Classen 35-yard-line, where the Wildcats took advantage of the field position and increased their lead on a 16-yard passing touchdown from May to Jonte Holt, and the lead was 13-0. A 2-point conversion failed.
The Wildcats next drive started at the Northwest Classen 42-yard line. The excellent field position resulted in another Piedmont score. DreAndre Bruton had a 41-yard run to the 2-yard line and Jayden Huston took it in from there on the next play, and the next two-point conversion was good. The Wildcats led 20-0 in the first quarter with the extra point from Noah Ward.
Northwest Classen’s quarterback Anthony Jones tossed a 32-yard pass to Brandon Butler who ran a seam route across the middle to put the Knights on the scoreboard. The extra point attempt kick failed.
Fuston scored on a 5-yard plunge to increase the lead to 33-6 in the second quarter. Fuston had another 7-yard run with 3:45 to go in the second quarter, and the score was 41-6 in the favor of Piedmont.
Knoxtyn Rallo had a punt return for a 59-yard TD with 1:31 left in the first quarter at it was soon 48-6 with the extra point.
The second half was not any easier for the Knights. The final was 61-6.
