Coming off a blowout loss to Guthrie, the Piedmont Wildcats returned to F&M Bank Stadium for a homecoming night game against Lawton Eisenhower.
Penalties and turnovers flustered Piedmont in the first half.
But a 45-yard touchdown run by Reid Smith put Piedmont up 43 to 26 with :32 left in the fourth quarter. That would end the scoring.
Piedmont scored on a 44-yard touchdown run from Jayden Fuston that gave the Wildcats a 21-13 lead. Lawton Eisenhower pulled within two points, 21-19, before a 44-yard scamper by Cannon Woods and a two-point conversion put the Wildcats up 29 to 19.
Lawton scored at the end of the third quarter after a 36-yard pass from Trachte to Lawton Eisenhower’s Jalen Jones. Kingston Tito’s 7-yard touchdown run made the score 21-19 at the end of the third quarter. The two-point conversion play, a run by Tito, was stuffed by Piedmont’s Tyson Benford.
In the first quarter, it was senior wide receiver Weston Thomas caught a Josh Mars pass for the opening score.
Lawton answered with a drive of their own, but the extra point was blocked.
A Josh Mars fumble led to Lawton taking a 13-7 lead. Piedmont would answer with a Jayden Fuston touchdown, and then Lawton returned a favor and blocked an extra point also.
The teams were tied 13-13 at half-time.
On a third down and seven to go with 10:25 left in the third Cannon Wood broke through the middle of the Eagles front for a long run into the red zone. The drive would stall, however.
Amarion Hale for Lawton stuffed a jet sweep to the right side, and Lawton forced a turnover on downs.
The game remained tied with 8:40 to go in the third quarter.
The Eagles used several pass completions from quarterback Charlie Trachte to get back into Piedmont territory.
