On the first play from scrimmage, Duncan’s Jayzen Kortemeir took a shotgun snap from the center and found a seam to burst into the Piedmont secondary.

But the Demons positive yardage play quickly went the other way. The ball was fumbled, and Piedmont’s Mikah Rocco scooped up the ball and ran 30-yards into the end zone for the first score of the game about 23 seconds into the game.

On the play, senior offensive lineman Talan Owen was injured. He did not return to the game that ended in a 54-3 route.

Piedmont quarterback Joshua Mars found Weston Thomas for a touchdown pass for the second Wildcats score.

Duncan’s offense lost a second fumble with about 11:45 to go in the second quarter.

Mars dropped back to pass on the next play, but in the backfield the passing protection broke down and he was hit and fumbled. Duncan’s Preston Bruehl scooped it up and ran to the Piedmont 23-yard line.

The fumble gave the Demons a short-lived spark.

The Wildcats defense didn’t allow the Demons to advance any further and Duncan settled for a field goal.

Piedmont’s offense took over and Cannon Wood scored on a 4-yard rushing play to make the score 21-3. A second Piedmont field goal from freshman kicker Noah Ward made it 24-3 at halftime.

The Wildcats offense controlled the third quarter behind Wood’s rushing. In the fourth quarter Piedmont had a commanding 52-3 lead. A late safety made the final score 54-3.
