Doris Jean Treece, 94, of Piedmont, Oklahoma, passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at Legend at Council Assisted Living in Oklahoma City. She was born April 15, 1929, to Jerry and Ruth Creager Knox in Wichita, Kansas. The Knox Family moved to the Piedmont area when Doris was three years old.
In school, she participated in Rainbow Girls and vocal choir. Three days after graduating from Piedmont High School, Doris married the love of her life, Leon Treece, on May 25, 1947. They farmed and raised their family in the Piedmont area until the early 1970s, when they purchased a ranch at Wetumka, Oklahoma.
Doris was a supportive farm wife to Leon during their farm and ranch life by cooking and delivering meals to the fields and taking care of the home and family. In 1995, they moved back to Piedmont after building their home at Northwood Lake Estates. Mom’s reputation, wherever she lived, was her great ability to cook, especially her fried chicken, cheese & mac, pies and three-layer cakes. She loved sharing her vegetable garden and her irises with friends and family.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Patricia Diane Treece; and her husband of 62 years, Leon Treece. Survivors include her daughters, Pamela Gruntmeir and Diana Ramsey and her son, Mike Treece and wife Sue, all of Piedmont, Oklahoma; her sister, Beverly Cockriel of Ponca City, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Jon Gruntmeir, Jeff Gruntmeir, Lindsay Treece, Matthew Treece and Frank Yerby; 10 great-grandchildren, Camber Chism, Carly Gruntmeir, Corbin Gruntmeir, Cassidy Gruntmeir, George Gruntmeir, Esther Gruntmeir, Ellery Gruntmeir, Camden Ingram, Cody Treece and Alex Treece; and two nephews, Kevin Cockriel and Brian Cockriel.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 25, at the First Baptist Church of Piedmont, with interment in Chapel Hill Cemetery, Oklahoma City.
