Piedmont didn’t have any answers for Carl Albert quarterback Reed DeQuasie Thursday night.

DeQuasie ran for 187 yards and two touchdowns as the fourth-ranked Titans held off a scrappy PHS bunch for a 38-21 win at F&M Bank Stadium in the final game of the regular season for both teams.

Piedmont (6-4, 3-3) will regroup and await the winner of Friday’s Elgin-Midwest City matchup in the first round of playoffs next week.

Cannon Wood ran for 77 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries for Piedmont, which entered Thursday’s game locked into the fourth and final playoff spot in District 5A-2. Still, Piedmont didn’t go quietly.

Quarterback Josh Mars hit Lane Whitworth for a 17-yard touchdown pass to bring PHS within 10-7 at the 7:42 mark of the second quarter, but that’s as close as the ‘Cats would get the rest of the game.

Piedmont twice cut Carl Albert’s lead to 10 in the second half, but DeQuasie and running back Caden Davis had a response each time. Davis finished with 63 yards and two scores while carrying the load for starter Xavier Robinson, who logged only three first-quarter carries before exiting for the night.

Davis put the final nail in the coffin for the Titans (8-2, 6-0) with a 10-yard touchdown run with 3:38 to play in the fourth quarter.

Israel Robles finished with 64 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries for PHS.

The game was originally scheduled to be played on Friday night, but was moved up 24 hours to avoid potential severe storms.
