Phillip R Young took his Leap of Faith in Jesus Christ peacefully in his home on Oct. 19, 2022, at the age of 72, lifted up in prayers by family and friends and with his loving and loyal wife, Katie, by his side.
Phil was born on Jan. 8, 1950, in Wynnewood, Oklahoma, graduated from Putnam City High School, served in the Army for three years and attended Oklahoma State University to pursue a degree in horticulture. He retired from Tinker Air Force Base in 2006 and was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse A and Myrtle Wallace Young.
Phil is survived by his sister, Lynda Brockhaus of Oklahoma City; Shirley Davis and her husband Ronnie of Marlow, Oklahoma; daughter Rita Young Smith and her husband Josh of Shanghai, China; stepson Curtis (Eric) Davidson and his wife Stacy of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, and their sons Brighton and Kingston; and stepdaughter Tiffany Davidson and her sons Curt and Cole Cornwell of Duncan. He was also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, dancing friends and hunting and fishing buddies.
Phil and his wife, Katie Hodges Young were members of the First Baptist Church of Piedmont and were married for 24 years. They were once long-time members of the Oklahoma City Swing Club and spent many fun hours dancing before moving to Falcon Lake in the Piedmont, Oklahoma, area to enjoy gardening, fishing with his grandsons and hunting. As a member of the Central Oklahoma Beekeepers Association, he spent time tending his bees and spinning honey.
A Celebration of Life is being held at the First Baptist Church of Piedmont, 15 Jackson Avenue, Piedmont, Oklahoma, on Sunday, Nov 13 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Baptist Church Youth Scholarship Fund.
