Kingfisher and Canadian counties, and most of central and western parts of the state, are under a winter weather advisory until noon Saturday, Jan. 1.
Single digit temperatures are ahead by Sunday morning.
Temperatures dropped below freezing overnight. The temperature in El Reno Saturday morning was 28 degrees, the National Weather Service reported.
Counties included in the advisory are Kingfisher, Logan, Payne, Oklahoma, Lincoln, Grady, McClain, Cleveland and Canadian.
North winds gusted up to 35 mph Saturday morning. Ice was possible on elevated surfaces. Motorists are advised to take precautions. The high temperature Saturday will be 31 degrees and low Sunday morning 9 degrees.
Oklahoma Gas & Electric Co. crews responded to outages. There were 7,350 outages across the state Saturday morning. About 3,000 of those were in the Oklahoma City area including Mustang and Yukon.
“As freezing temperatures and strong winds are expected to continue today, over 100 restoration personnel are working across our service area to restore electric service as quickly and safely as possible to customers without service, primarily in the OKC metro and Bixby area,” according to a statement from an OG&E spokeswoman.
“Please stay safe and stay away from downed power lines and anything they are touching. Report downed power lines by calling 800-522-6870.”
The high temperature Sunday will be 30 degrees, the weather service reports.
