Artist Annalisa Campbell has been an art instructor since she was just 9 years-old.

She is continuing to teach her skills and spread more art with others at Brayer&Brush studio now in Piedmont. Campbell has moved her studio from the Paseo District in Oklahoma City to Piedmont Road.

She teaches artists of all ages and abilities. She says she is an art therapist of sorts too.

“I’m a teaching artist first, artist and art therapist without a degree,” Campbell said.

She moved to Piedmont 23 years ago.

“When we first moved here it was a mission of ours to help get the library built. She I was instrumental with Nedra Funk and several others in getting the Piedmont Public Library open.”

She opened the Brayer&Brush studio in Paseo for a decade.

“I’m just now opening my studio in Piedmont, and I am looking forward to it.”

She said she became an artist at age 5. Teaching started at age 9.

“My mother set me down and told me, ‘Teach these 6 year-olds how to do this project. And I have been encouraging art for all ages since I was 9,” Campbell said.

She was born in Oklahoma City, lived in Cushing and graduated from Putnam City West High School.

One of her students walked into the new studio to take a tour. Ella Beane, 7, of Surrey Hills, takes frequent lessons.

Kara Beane, her mother, said Ella loves art, and started taking lessons about a year ago.

Ella said she has done prints with ink to rhythms of music.

“Instead of thinking of a picture to draw, you think through to the rhythm of the music, and we took that and made it into a print-making plate,” Campbell said.

Tanner Adcock has been one of Campbell’s students for six years making mixed media for artwork. He showed a graphic drawing of his dog Sandy, an 11-year-old mix. Art has helped him expand his horizons, Adcock said.
